US SAILING Keelboat Certification at J World San Diego
At J World San Diego Performance Sailing School, we offer US SAILING Certification at no charge with some of our sailing classes. Our sailing classes will cover more information than is required for US SAILING certification. We offer sailing certification as an option for students that will be chartering boats in the future and want to have a recognized log book for keeping records of their sailing. There is a written and practical portion of each exam with each sailing certification.

Please remember that in order to obtain sailing certification each level must be completed in order to move on to the next.

Basic Keelboat Sailing Certification

To responsibly skipper and crew a simple day sailing keelboat in familiar waters in light to moderate wind and sea conditions. Classes are taught aboard our J/80 Sailboat which is a 26-foot keelboat with tiller steering.

Basic Cruising Certification

To responsibly skipper and crew an auxiliary powered cruising sailboat during daylight hours within sight of land in moderate sea and wind conditions. This sailing class is taught aboard our J/80 Sailboat and J/105 Sailboat depending on the class.

US SAILING Basic Keelboat Certification

Bareboat Cruising Certification

To responsibly skipper, crew or bareboat charter an inboard auxiliary powered cruising sailboat within sight of land to a port or an anchorage during daylight hours in moderate to strong wind and sea conditions. We use our J/120 sailboat for this certification.
